Important French Art Deco platinum ring comprising a superb quality 1.4 carat untreated Colombian emerald, as well as 3 carats of mixed round old European brilliant and baguette cut diamonds. The 1.4 carat Colombian emerald has an exceptional top quality green hue and being an eye clean in clarity terms piece, makes it a fantastic example of the finest quality Colombian emeralds. The square cut emerald measures approximately 6.9 x 6.9 x 4.3mm. There are a total of 98 old European differently sized round brilliant cut diamonds and 6 baguette diamonds with an estimated total diamond weight of roughly about 3 carats. All diamonds have a great general VVS/VS clarity and sparkling G/H color. The ring somehow resembles the skyscraper dome of one of New York’s finest examples of Art Deco buildings, i.e. the Chrysler Building, which was extremely fashionable during the 1930s. The size of the ring is 53 (US size 6 ½, UK size M/N) and has a gross weight of 14.7 grams of Pt 950 platinum. A less attractive, but nearly identical by shape 18K white gold ring with a small round diamond centerpiece fetched nearly 8,300 EUR at a recent Etude Tajan auction sale (Lot #372, Sale 9532, July 27, 2010 – see attached catalogue scanned image). Although the present ring appears to be unmarked, it is certainly an important French piece capable of being made by world renowned known firms of that time like Cartier, Mauboussin, Van Cleef & Arpels, LaCloche, Chaumet etc. Indeed a scarce antique jewelry / jewellery collector piece and one of the rare examples of finest Colombian emeralds and platinum Art Deco rings and jewels.
